Today was a trip down memory lane as I got stuck in the middle of the Farmington Founder's Festival, an event that was the highlight of my summer between the ages of 6 - 10. It always was the weekend before my birthday and Mrs. Thompson always bought me handmade Barbie clothes, homemade candles, and penguin figurines. On the edge of 26 the Founder's Festival is not as enchanting, especially when you've got places to be. Mrs Thompson and Aunt Joannie also decided we would eat at the Leather Bottle, which despite changing hands half a dozen times since my childhood, looks exactly the same save for a peach leather couch where the Pac-Man/Galaga table video game once was located. Hearing them talk about how my favorite hangout as a pre-teen is being torn down to make way for a bigger, and better Wal-Mart equally bummed me out. Wonderland Mall, in 1989, had not one, not two, but three record/tape stores, a Woolworth's with a lunch counter, and a beauty supply store that sold gummy bracelets 3 for $0.25. Now it is a completely vacant shell, temporarily a car lot, waiting demolition. I would say that part of the mall's failure has to do with white flight.
Today I got an Eames style chair for $25.
Lately I feel I need a lot of alone time. I also feel really tired.
Ellie! I am sorry I didn't make it out to the rummage sale. I was predisposed, also with no phone. I will call you tonight!
